Through consultation with counselors, students select elective classes during the academic hours (8:00 am-12:30 pm). Some of the classes are one semester. Some may be entered only with the teacher’s permission. Some have age restrictions (must be 16 years of age).

Art in Society
This elective class is a study of the interdependence of the arts and society from the Renaissance through the present as seen through the eyes of the artist. Presentations, guest lecturers, videos, readings.
Music in History
In this course, students study the relationship between music and the historical time that it was created. Topics include Baroque, Classical and Romantic music, Opera, Jazz, Broadway musical, Rock & Roll, protest music, music from other cultures and contemporary music. This is a one-semester course.
Contemporary Issues
In this course, analysis is done of the major issues confronting Los Angeles, California, the United States and the world. Students will receive the Los Angeles Times, Upfront Magazine published by the New York Times, as well as other sources of contemporary news. This is a one-semester course.
Leadership
Supervised class period for student body officers, arts department representatives, and student reps to Site Council, to plan, coordinate and implement school activities.
Study Hall (Do not receive credit)
Teachers or Office Assistant (Do not receive credit)
Assist teachers of office staff with daily activities, as needed.
